I’m KrisAnne. I’m a singer and voice teacher based in Minneapolis, MN. I teach private lessons online, and starting in the fall of 2020, I’ll be joining the voice faculty at Carleton College. I have a doctorate in music performance and I’ve served on the faculties of Luther College, Lawrence University, the University of Minnesota, Lutheran Summer Music Festival and Academy, and St. Olaf College. I’ve performed as a soloist with opera and concert organizations throughout the Midwest. I was trained as a classical singer, but I’m passionate about and inspired by many different musical styles. To put things in perspective, two of my major lifelong musical inspirations are Kate Bush and Björk.
I work with students of all ages (generally 13 and up) and abilities, and I particularly like working with adults who are new to voice lessons or returning to singing after a long break. Whether you have a degree in vocal music or you want to feel more confident singing karaoke, I will work with you to help you meet your goals.
I foster an atmosphere of trust and exploration in the voice studio. I am always learning from my students, and seeking additional knowledge because of the questions, experiences, and interests they bring to lessons. My favorite teaching tools–besides sound voice science and physiological reality–are empathy, imagination, and hilarity.
I’m an LGBTQ+ ally and competent around issues of gender identity and the voice, both in terms of physiology and in terms of gender presentation. I have worked with transmasculine, transfeminine, and non-binary singers, including people who are taking testosterone. All are welcome in my studio.
